Project 1 - Case Study and Documentation of Building Services Systems

 

In a group of 6, we were required to choose a building of at least 4-storey high which can be either public or commercial buildings (i.e. office blocks, institutional buildings, shopping malls, etc.). Through a visit, interviews, literature reviews and also our own research, we were require to produce a report and a summary of 2 A2 boards of services systems associated to the buildings which are water supply system, electrical supply system, sewerage, sanitary and drainage system, mechanical transportation system, mechanical ventilation and air-conditioning system and fire protection system.

 

Our chosen building is The Curve NX, located at Mutiara Damansara is connected to the Curve. It is mainly build for The Curve for its parking space. The Main tenant for the Curve NX is KIDZania which occupies the upper top two floors (level 5 and level6). In order for visitors to stay comfortable shopping at the Curve NX, electrical supply, mechanical ventilation and transportation system is provided for the convenience of the shoppers inside the building. Fire protection system is installed in the building for safety purposes and to minimize the loss and injuries of visitors during fire. The Curve NX also provided an organized sewage system for visitors and staffs and they are able to prevent unwelcomed scents entering the building.  

 

Through this project, I am able to identify and understand relevant information related to water and electrical supply, sewerage, mechanical ventilation and air-conditioning as well as fire protection systems. In addition, I am able to understand how each building services functions including the connections and position of different parts equipment. Furthermore, I am able to understand and explain the principles and systems as well as space implications and regulations related to different building services.
