Methods Of Documentation And Measured Drawings [ARC 1215]
Project 1 Sketchbook and Journal
This is the only individual project of sem 3.5. It is an on-site exercise where students have to sketch and documents the physical and intangible qualities of the buildings as well as the immediate context of the site. The sketchbook can be from an element as broad as the urban planning itself down to the smallest detail of the ornaments used in the building.
Some of the physical aspects may include building or structure such as a bridge; architectural elements such as windows, doors, five-foot ways; architectural features such as ornaments, keystone, arches over windows, carvings, tiles layout; construction details such as staircase, roof structure; the physical context – overall urban layout, street furniture; traditional transportation such the trishaw.
The intangible aspects that can be captured are people of the place doing their daily activities; cultural elements such as clothes, furniture, glass and china, food; traditional trade – incense shop, street side cobbler, other family businesses; urban qualities such as the rhythm created by the repetition of roof volumes, the serial visions and vistas, the circulation nodes.
As a start, it is compulsary for us to sketch plans, elevations and sections of that building, then followed by the topics:
1. Genius Loci,
2. Poetic Quality,
3. Cultural Attributes
4. Construction Details.
The selected building of our group is It is an old building with many damaged walls and ceilings. Also, many of the windows and doors had been removed. Therefore, I used only pen to produce my sketchbook as the black and white sketches show the simple and cleanness of the building.
The objectives of this project are as follows:
1. To train students to be observant to their surrounding
2. To instil the culture of documenting as part of the learning process in architectural education
3. To enhance the students’ graphic communication skills in capturing important details and the spirit of the place
Through this project, I am able to identify architectural historic structure and capture the tangible and intangible essence that is contained within the architecture realm through this project.

Project 2 Measured Drawing
This is the first group and individual project of sem 3.5. It will be carried out throughout the semester where students will be assigned to measure and document a historical / heritage building and translate all the data into a set of drawings and a model. Each group will have to only measure one particular building assigned by the lecturer. Apart from doing the measuring exercise on site, students will also need to do additional research in order to piece together all the important data about the building.
We were required to produce 4 sets of drawings comprising all the plans, elevation, sections and axonometric of the selected building also a physical model to show the construction / structure of the buildings. First of all, we were required to form a group of certain number to do a measuring exercise on Pejabat Agama Islam Daerah Klang, taking all physical information of the building, from its location to its spatial layout as well as details. After that, we have to produce the drawings by using Autocad. Each of us was required to measure the particular spaces of that building and produce the plans and sections by using Autocad. Then, all of the drawings are combined together produced a completed plans, elevations and sections. Also, I was assigned to do the physical model with our model team. We decided to make a exploded sectional model without laser cutter. Although we had face many ostacles during the procedures, we solved it together successfully.
This project aims to produce a set of measured drawings of historical buildings or structures in a specific location. A report containing important and historical information of the buildings will complement the drawings. It is an on-site exercise where students are required to execute fieldwork and hands-on measurement exercise.
This is my favourite project of this semester. We worked as a team and had gain lots of knowledge. I am able to recommend the appropriate method of architectural historic documentation. I am also able to recognize and recall techniques of measured drawing and documentation. Also, I can explain the as-built building constructions, architectural details and elements-elaments. In addition, I am able to interpret historic architectural element, structure and building. I can execute fieldwork and hands-on measurement exercise. Lastly, I am able to translate measured data into scaled drawings and produce a report on the buildings highlightings its importance and historical significance.

Project 3 Video on Mesured Drawing
The report is a document that accompanies the set of drawings for the building that is measured during the semester. Basically, the report will elaborate on the significance of the building being measured from various aspects such as architectural, historical and cultural. In this report, students are required to relate the architecture of the building to its significance, highlighting how the two support the inhabitation of the building. A video documenting the building is required to provide 3D experience of the building.
The objectives of this project are as follows:
1. To documents the significance of the building to accompany the measured drawings
2. To enable students to analyse the relationship between architecture and the significance of the building as well as its inhabitation
Through this project, I am able tp explain the application of architectural historic documents. Also, I can describe architectural cultural heritage. In addition, I am able to elaborate the relationship between architecture and the significance of the building as well as its inhabitation.
