Architectural Design Project [ARC 3127]
Project 1a: Developing an Architectural Position
The first stage of the project was the site analysis and investigating the notion of the such such as the existing site issue, natural habitat, the culture of the city. Through the investigation, a simple brief of architectural design porject can be developed. Programme and space planning can be developed and the case study can be analyses to understand the architectural responses and intentional design strategies in informing the final project stage.
Porject 1b Final Design Project: UNESCO Centre
This module is a thematic studio based on the theme of “sustaining humanities’’—architecture for people, place and time. Designing for sustainability has been a fundamental issue for architects in our time within global and regional contexts. In line with the current discourse on sustainability, It upholds the belief that architecture can create better places, that architecture can affect society and humanity, and that it can have a role in making a place civilized by making a community more liveable. Students are required to develop the design project proposed by their supervisor in a way that reflects the theme and finalizes a programme that addresses the needs of the required user group. This solution should also aim to provide spaces that invite interaction with the surrounding contextual conditions. In addition to the theme of sustaining humanities, the module focuses on the development of students’ ability to integrate considerations of technology, environmental sustainability and the broader cultural context into architectural design. This studio also offers a platform for students to develop their own position in developing their individual project.
Building on the design brief and pre-analysis of context, user and programme presented in Project 1a, design a building that delivers a strong relationship to place, people and time. It is imperative for your design to be environmentally sustainable. You must also be knowledgeable of the materials, services and construction systems employed in the building, while adhering in principle to regulatory by-laws (UBBL) and fire regulation. The building must be no larger than 2000m2 (including covered circulation) and not less than 3, but not higher than 5-storeys
The final project allow me to understand the holistic nature of the architectural design process to a certain degree of detail with emphasis on design as an integrative process, drawing as appropriate on previous subject. The design allow me to conside the site context of analysis base on surrounding context, natural environment, the society, the building surrounding and the existing ruins. The design was integrated with a sustainable design context such as the consideration of building performance ( thermal comfort, acoustic and lighting), regulatory frameworks, health and safety consideration of the user.
The spaces and concept are develop from the understading of the site context need which able to provide a better community area for the locals. The design i was able to explore and express my position in architecture, and systhesize issues relating to programme and other regulatory requirements. Consideration was also included for fire safety, materials, construction, sustainability, feasibility aand other relevant consideration.
