Architectural Design Studio 3 [ARC 2118]
Project 1: Memorials Themed "Journey of the 5 Senses"
This is a group project. Firstly, we were required to form a group of 5. My group members are Cheah Hoong Fei, Joshua Ting, Hanis and Imran. There are 2 task in this project:
Project 1a: Precedent Studies - Analysing spatial poetics and spatial typologies in architecture
In this task, we were required to produce 2 A3 panels that includes diagrams, photos and minimal annotations illustrating the analysis of our selected precedents.
Project 1b: "Journey for the 5 senses" Memorials
We have to design two memorials based on the design strategies in Project 1a. One memorial is designed for MH370 and another memorial is designed for Sewol Ferry. Also, we decided to use Linear for Sewol memorial; Concentric for MH370 memorial. In the final submission, we have to produce 8 A3 panels that includes Plans, Sections and Images of poetic spaces for each memorials. Also, we have to produce 3D models and verbal presentation of 15 minutes.
In this project, I am able to identify and explain different spatial types in architecture, and how they inform spatial use and experience. Besides that, I can identify and analyse case studies to infrom the design project. I am also able to create tectonic expressions of different spatial typologies which impact on the uses and experiential conditions of space. Also, I can generate design through conscious consideration of section-plan relationship with considerations of human scale, natural light, materiality and textures. In addition, I am able to produce both 2D and 3D modeling and verbal presentation to communicate and visualize architectural design and ideas.

Project 2: Genius Loci - Site Analysis and Concept Development
This is a Group and Individual Project. First of all, we had visited Pulau Besar, Melacca to study the sites and think about the design development of Visitor Interpretive Center for Pulau Besar.
Group Task: Site Conditions and Analysis
Firstly, we were given 4 sites. And in the same group of Project 1, 5 of us have to choose one of the sites and produce an A2 panel of site analysis. The site that we had chosen is site No. 1 which is a site with two significant "landmarks": a tree grows well from a rock & a man made Dragon Tail.
Individual Task: Personal Interpretation & Concept Development as a response
For individual task, we were required to produce our own personal interpretation of the MACRO site in the form of sketches. Also, we have to produce an individual concept drawings which including Plan, Section and Elevation. Besides that, we were also required to produce a 3D conceptual model of our Visitor Interpretive Center. My concept is Hope and Despair and the idea is come from the significant tree and also the early development history of Pulau Besar.
Through this project, I am able to produce site analysis which document, interpret and analyze the site context and the "genius loci" of place. Also, I am able to produce a concept design for a Visitor Interpretive Centre based on the site analysis conclusions.

Project 3: Genius Loci - Visitor Interpretive Centre (VIC)
This is our final project (individual) and it is a continuous project from Project 2. Our task is to produce 4 A1 panels conveying ideas underlying the design , its overall form and space, and its spatial qualities. Also, we have to produce one sectional model to show the construction method and joints.
From this project, I am able to generate design based on the unique character and conditions of the site context. Besides that, I can generate design through conscious consideration of section-plan relationship with considerations of human scale, natural light, materials/ texture. Also, I am able to design a small scale community building which response to the site (site typography, history and socio-cultural events). Lastly, I can produce drawings of both 2D and 3D, modelling and verbal presentation to communicate and visualize architectural design and ideas.
Although I have face a lots of obstacle through this project, I am happy that I have learnt lots of knowledge. Special Thanks to Miss Yan for always helping me and guiding me through this module.
