Project 1: Experiencing Construction: Experiencing, Documentation and Analyzing
Construction Process
This is my first group and individual project. Our task is to select an ongoing construction site which visibly covers most of subject topics covered in the syllabus. Then, as a group, we have to study and record the construction of the site from foundation to the roof. For the final submission, we have to produce an A3 report with visuals, sketches and manual drawings inclusive of the detailing and documentation of our project. Firstly, we were required to form a group of 8 and select an ongoing site to get our project started. My group members are Cheah Hoong Fei, Joshua Ting Sing Rong, The Xue Kai, Imran, Hanis, Qistina and Aidil. Our selected site is Kinrara Residence, Puchong which is a 46 units double storey terrace houses.
Group Task
First of all, 8 of us went to the Kinrara Residence construction site to meet the site manager, Mr Razly. He is friendly, and introduced us about the ongoing project on the site. The site manager was like our lecturer; he guided us to the site, and explained every single thing that we didn’t understand. For example, he explained the building construction method, the machines and heavy vehicles that needed on site and so on. I want to thank him for helping us to complete this project=D! After collected all the data and information that we needed, we started to do the cover page, contents and sketches together as a group. Although we have faced problems while doing the work together, we discussed, and solved it successfully.
Individual Task
After that, from group of 8, we divided ourselves to from group of 2 for individual task. There are 7 chapters which are Introduction, Site and Safety, External Work, Foundation, Superstructure, Doors & Windows, Roof and Summary. Cheah Hoong Fei and I chose Chapter 1 (Introduction) and Chapter 5 (Superstructure). Then, for the Introduction, I did the fast facts of Kinrara Residence while he helped me to add the photos and diagrams as evidence. For the Superstructure, I did the Slab and Masonry Wall while he did the Staircase and Beam & Column. We have included the sketches, diagrams and photos to help explain the construction elements in detail.
From this project, I have learnt to produce a complete documentation (pictures, sketches and drawing) and analysis of construction elements. In addition, I understand and able to explain construction elements and its components. Also, I understand current construction technology on local construction sites. Furthermore, I am able to explain current material and technology in relevance to present construction industry.

Project 2: Construction Activities and Process
This is the final project (individual) for this subject. Our final submission is to produce an A4 report to document and illustrate visualizing construction activities and process of a 3 stories bungalow building in weeks. The stage by stage process should be illustrated in 3D diagram (manual or computer aided).
I attended to Revit class organized by Mr. Bruce and I chose to use it to show the stage by stage process in my final report. Firstly, I thought it was an easy project, as we did not need to draw everything manually. Instead, everything was shown in the form of 3D model by using Revit. However, it was my first time using software to build a 3D model. Although I had attended to the Revit class, I was still unable to handle it. Therefore, I had spent a long time in doing Revit and this caused my report couldn’t be completed on the submission day!
Mr. Bruce, I am sorry for the late submission. I will manage my time well next time =(
Although I had faced many obstacles in this project, I have gained much knowledge about building construction. At the end of this project, I am able to produce a complete documentation (pictures, sketches and drawings) and analysis of construction elements. Also, I understand and am able to explain construction elements and its components. In addition, I understand current construction technology on local construction sites. Furthermore, I am able to explain current material and technology in relevance to present construction industry.
I enjoy learning this module very much. Once again, thank you all lecturers! =D
